I have been in the field since 2005 and received my bachelor’s degree from Montclair State University in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice. During my undergraduate education, I focused on providing counseling in a forensic setting. I worked at Bonnie Brae conducting institutional longitudinal research on program effectiveness while in a residential setting. Soon after, I went on to work at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center which provided treatment to convicted sex offenders. This experience allowed me to find my passion for providing therapy to underserved populations to individuals in forensic settings. I have found that if early intervention services could be provided, there may be an effect on lowering recidivism.

“My unique approach is based on meeting clients where they are at with the philosophy to provide relief to my clients by exploring their strengths and how they can be used to enhance their level of functioning.”

I later went on to receive my masters degree in Forensic Mental Health Counseling from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. While receiving my Masters degree, I worked at Riker’s Island providing counseling to inmates. These inmates in the therapeutic community participated in a pilot study and received counseling in a group setting. I was able to develop a curriculum that integrated experiential therapies and creative arts. I took my creative passion and realized that therapy can be effective and fun while relying less on rote clinical manuals. I found that psychodrama helped foster community, hope and creativity within the inmates, and the therapy itself was less threatening! Inmates of all backgrounds were able to receive the benefits of treatment.

After graduation, I worked as a counselor at a halfway house for inmates in Newark and developed a curriculum on bibliotherapy. I went on to work at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center and worked my way up from an intake specialist in their access center to the Senior Director of Behavioral Health. During this time, I developed their eating disorder program that targeted services to those who could not afford traditional treatment. I then worked as a director at Vantage Health System and received her IGCG-1 certification in gambling addiction treatment and developed training for their robust internship program.

I always had a strong pull to provide clinical services one on one. My unique approach is based on meeting clients where they are at with the philosophy to provide relief to my clients by exploring their strengths and how they can be used to enhance their level of functioning. I pride myself with providing a warm approach and creating confidence for the client to use their skills by using the therapeutic space as the laboratory. The laboratory will help practice skills in a safe space and give way to use them in real life. A quote from Maya Angelou, sums up my unique approach to therapy: “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” Our work together will provide you a sounding board to accomplish your goals and achieve personal growth. The fear of judgement often dims the light to share your story. Our journey will allow a judgement- free arena for you to tell your story and develop a more integrated self.I have received certifications through PESI in DBT and as a  Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. I am also level 2 trained in the Gottman Method for couples. I use an eclectic approach to therapy and believe that therapy requires work inside and outside the session and often integrates homework and teaching.

Some fun facts about myself: I am a singer and often perform at events and recitals. I have a passion for crystals and work with tarot and oracle cards. I also love painting with watercolors and have worked with people on creating their natal charts to develop further personal exploration!
